Public Skating Conduct

Patrons are expected to obey the following rules to ensure a safe and pleasant skating experience:

  1. Patrons must respect and follow the Rules of Conduct at all times. Please report all accidents or injuries to arena personnel immediately.
  2. It is recommended that skaters under the age of 12 years be under the supervision of an adult while participating in our open ice skating program.
  3. Foul language or inappropriate behaviour, as outlines in Fair Play Code of Conduct, will not be tolerated.
  4. It is highly recommended that skaters wear Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved helmets during the skating sessions.
  5. No sticks are permitted on the ice surface.
  6. Skaters are expected to skate at a moderate and safe speed in the same direction as other skaters.
  7. Skaters are not permitted to skate backwards to perform figure skating manoeuvres.
  8. Skaters are not permitted to stand and gather at one spot on ice surface, creating the possibility of collision.
  9. Wheelchairs, ice sledges, and novice or physically challenged persons with skating aids are permitted in the designated area at the end space of ice surface. Persons accompanying these participants on the ice must have clean footwear. Entry to the ice surface must be away from other skaters. For the safety of all skaters, a wheelchair shall have its wheels cleaned prior to entering onto the ice surface as to not track any foreign matter onto the ice surface. CSA approved helmets and ice cleats are recommended for all participants in the designated skating area.
  10. Carrying children while on the ice surface is not permitted at any time.
  11. The use of headsets, cell phones or hand-held electronic devices is not permitted while skating.
  12. Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice surface.

Participants violating the Rules of Conduct will be given a verbal warning. A subsequent infraction will then be instructed to leave the ice surface. Repetitive violations of the Rules of Conduct may lead to a suspension or total loss of the privilege of participation in public skating.
