The Blind River Fire department provides 24-hour emergency response services to our community. The department is made up of a full-time fire chief and several volunteer firefighters. We work with vehicles and equipment including:

  • One pumper truck
  • One 107-foot aerial ladder truck
  • One combination tanker-pumper
  • One rescue truck, used for auto extrication
  • One four-by-four utility vehicle, used for bush fires

Please be advised that our volunteers have no set schedule for working hours and are on call 24 hours per day to respond whenever available. We schedule regular training sessions every second Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

 

DUTIES

 

Volunteer Firefighters are required to respond to

  • Live fires
  • Motor vehicle collisions
  • Incidents that may be traumatic and could involve members of your community
  • Ground based water rescue
  • Volunteer activities
  • Bi-Weekly training
PERSONAL SUITABILITY

 

Volunteer Firefighters should be:

  • Comfortable with heights
  • Comfortable in small or tight spaces
  • Calm under pressure
  • Able to follow and understand directions
  • Willing to be paged 24/7
  • Able to respond to calls at all hours of the day and night 
  • Able to safely lift 25lbs
  • Aware of the physical demands of the job, including wearing heavy gear at emergency incidents
