Role of Mayor
The role of the Mayor is to:
- Act as Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality
- Provide leadership to Council
- Preside over Council meetings
- Represent the Municipality at official functions
- Act as Council's representative when dealing with other levels of government, their agencies and the private sector and the media
- Carry out the duties of the Municipal Act or any other Act
Role of Council
The role of Council is to:
- Represent the public and to consider the well-being and the interests of the Municipality
- Develop and evaluate the policies and programs of the Municipality
- Subject to legislative restrictions, to develop regulations to be adopted in by-laws and resolutions for the over-all benefit of the community
- Determine the services the Municipality provides in accordance with applicable legislation
- Ensure that administrative practices and procedures are in place to implement the decisions of Council
- Maintain the financial integrity of the Municipality
- Carry out the duties Council under the Municipal Act or any other Act
Committee of the Whole Chairs
This is a Committee of all Council members which deals with matters in a less formal manner than at Regular Council Meetings. Resolutions are not formally adopted however reports are discussed and recommendations are made to Council. Following a Municipal Election, the Mayor determines the Council member who shall be the Chair for each Committee on the Committee of the Whole.
